ePlatforms

Different Social Media platforms and tools can be useful in many different types of working environments. I do think that a person needs to have a tiny foil hat on always, when it comes to the information in them. Especially places like facebook, X or Instragram. Different Social Media platforms are used in many fraud variations. How ever, when used wisely with a bit of care, they can be a useful and even a fun tool to have in your arsenal. They can be used as an information channel, marketing channel and also as a working tool for example.

I do use different social media tools in my working environment but also in my personal life, sometimes related to my work and career as well. They can be helpful in connecting with like-minded people, in terms of career, and gaining information about different news and projects related to your job description.

In my job they can be the tool that is used to connect people, from opposite side of the country, for different meetings and sharing information with people or groups. They can also be used to conduct projects between people who are not in the same location, and help the information sharing in that. They can also be a tool to share process and instruction information internally or company information to the customers.

LinkedIn

I use this Social Media tool and have found it very useful as an information platform, specifically regarding the area of business that I work in. You can get a lot of links to useful articles, and publications of current issues in the area. You can basically see what is going on in other companies, regarding laws and regulations and any new innovations as well. This is also a useful tool for connecting with other people working in the same area of business.

Like all Social Media tool, in this one as well, there are scams and frauds happening. Being sensible is good. I have personally received more than one clearly a scam message on this platform. But being careful and disregarding them helps you get the benefits but not the downside.  I would recommend this site to anyone who wishes to stay updated on their field of job description.

WhatsApp

I chose this because it is used in a very large scale. I use it personally (is there anyone who doesn´t?) but it is also used in the working environment as a tool to organize work shifts for example, and to inform working teams of different things that are not subject to confidential rules, like sick leaves for example.

It is a useful communication tool between groups, where everyone does not have access to teams through work phones. It should how ever only be used for general information, not work data related matters.

ChatGPT

The ChatGPT, this is quit a controversial tool at times but I chose it because it is a tool and using it should be made normal so that people understand it. AI based tools and platforms will certainly be the future, so I personally like to at least try things like the ChatGPT.

I have used it few times, it is a fun tool but it is not always useful. You should also check the regulations of using it in your work environment, some have embraced it and some have not. We have access to it in my own working environment. I find it most useful when you know what you want to say, but have a hard time finding the right words for it. You do need to be quite specific in what you ask, and also know if the answer is correct. So as a teaching tool it is not very useful yet. It also doesn´t give the reference information for the text. Everyone should try it in my opinion. Tt can be, if nothing else, a fun tool to use.

Skype/Teams

I chose Skype here as well, but only as an example of the platform that has no switched to Teams, and Skype is not used anymore. Teams is of course a more comprehensive tool to use, then Skype was. In terms of remote meetings, the premises is the same. Now after covid especially, everyone works in different locations, and from there homes as well so being able to connect remotely and to share information remotely quickly is a key to efficient working processes.

Teams is used also to share different documents between people, even larger groups of people and this can be very convenient. Teams can also connect to sharepoint, visio and onedrive for example, and when utilized well can be a comprehensive information network in the working environment. (M365 tools)

There is also the danger that information is divided in to too many different tools, and becomes hard to find and to connect to the people using them. You should also take in to account where the information is stored, and is there any regulatory obstacles in it, for example using cloud storage.

When used with a care teams (and other M365) tool can be very useful and make the working processes easier and quicker, and better connect people with one another.

I personally not use social media like Facebook, X or Instagram for example, in my job do but I do use them in my personal life. Social Media is how ever used in the company that I work for, but by the marketing teams/departments. This is probably the norm in most companies now. They can be useful tool, for promotion campaigns, as a channel for general customer service or for example as a notification channel for problems/disturbances in services.

As with LinkedIn, there are a lot misuse in these Social Media platforms, as they are easy to use for regular person, they are also easy to utilize for the scammers and fraudsters. So again, the small foil hat on, before using them. I personally find them a fun and useful way of connecting with people, but in these all the information they contain is not legit information but when you remember that and use it with that in mind it can be useful.

Self-assessment

This was very interesting assignment. I found it useful to think what are the actual different social media tools or platforms that I use, in my job as well as personally. You don´t always notice all the different tools you use, because it is so much an integrated part of the processes in your job. You just use them from a habit, not thinking that I am now using this platform for this process. It is good to stop and recognize them, if not only to stay vigilant from scams but also to better understand the different levels of the processes in different job descriptions. This will be a key information in development of those processes. Also, if needed making them more streamlined and effective as well. Is the tool that is used know, the best one for this matter? Or is there a better way of doing it, or with some other platform.  They development in them is very fast based. Some options that were good few years ago, might not be the best anymore, and might in fact be obsolete all ready.
